Our writing groups have really developed since the beginning of the week! It is a huge testament to the courage of our participants that they have adopted each other as a community so quickly. Some are writing poetry this week and some are working on their first fictional narratives. Others are working on dissertations and manuscripts for publication. A diversity of points of view all working together to communicate ideas in writing.
Can we just give a round of applause for how sharply-dressed our presenters have been this week?
This morning Brian got us to think about our thinking, especially in the way that our Discourse (Gee) changes from space to space. It's an important reminder that not all of our students learn the same primary Discourse practices before they come into our classrooms. Thanks to Brian for getting us to think, not just about the way that we think, but about the different ways our students might think as well. |
In the afternoon, Katrina introduced us to the idea of an EdCafe. EdCafes allow the participants to build the "conference" around interest and choice. Each participant who is involved in the EdCafe is responsible for presenting or facilitating discussion over a specific issue at some point during the proceedings. Those who are not facilitating discussion decide which session they would like to attend. This is a great tool for building learning around the experiences and talents of the people who are in the room.

We used the EdCafe format to discuss some of the great resources we've found during our inquiry mapping. This was a great opportunity for sharing and collaboration among UIWP fellows. To see what topics we've all been mapping, take a look at the PARTICIPANTS PAGE and follow the links to each participant's portfolio.
