Today our wonderful fellows took over writing groups and lead groups around spaces on campus that they have discovered. It has been such a delight to see people getting out of their comfort zones and sharing their writing with one another.
Our morning teaching demo was lead by Chuck Koplinski who asked us to think about how our students critically absorb films. This was the first time we were asked as a group to think about the way we remediate as a part of the teaching demonstration. A great point we discussed was that just because we may not use the same vocabulary to describe what we do in the classroom doesn't mean that we aren't using the same strategies. |
To quote Chuck, "I didn't recognize the word 'remediation,' but when I learned what it was I realized I had already been doing it for years." I think we can all agree that the movie Cast Away will have wound up in our Netflix queues by the time we get home this afternoon.
In the PM session we expanded our inquiry maps. Katrina gave us some fantastic resources (as you can see) to move the process along. A shared favorite aspect of the summer institute has always been dedicated time to focus attention on things that we don't normally get the time to. Inquiry mapping has been no exception. Everybody is looking forward to continuing inquiry that will positively affect their practice!
