The weather kept us close to home today as our writing groups spread themselves around the education building and some of the adjacent buildings. The U of I has so many great spaces around campus to tuck into to get some writing done.
Maureen gave an excellent presentation over writing for social action (see the slideshow posted below). This was a great opportunity for us to all consider what our students know about the world and how that can lead them to ask deeper questions about things that they'd like to see changed. Getting our students engaged in the topics they study can often be the most difficult part of the job!
Our very awesome afternoon was focused around "composing with things!" After bringing in some random items, we were tasked with making "something with a purpose or intention" using one item of our own, one we collected from another person, and one variable that was given to us blindly. The results were incredible.
